Relationship Burning?

February 8, 2007 · 39 Comments

The more time I spend blogging, the more “unusual” relationships I develop with people I meet online along the way. It never occurred to me that I would be meeting a lot of people this way. After all, I was among the last people in my circle of friends who finally succumbed to the prospect of writing an online journal.

Over the years, I seem to have forgotten to keep track of the relationships that I had with my High School batchmates, my College blockmates and classmates, and my previous officemates. I don’t know what happened, but I guess I guess I just took my relationships with them for granted, and now I’m finding it hard to find out where they are and at least find out what’s new in their lives.

Teachers and Mr. Holland

February 4, 2007 · 23 Comments

Playing music is supposed to be fun. It’s about heart, it’s about feelings, moving people, and something beautiful, and it’s not about notes on a page. I can teach you notes on a page, I can’t teach you that other stuff.
-Richard Dreyfuss, actor, from Mr. Holland’s Opus

classroomSociety nowadays don’t seem to give teachers much credit. I remember talking with my professor back in College, Mr. Muega. He said that his former colleague is now a teacher in the US, earning a whole lot more than what she earned when she was still teaching at UP. Apparently, since UP keeps on getting budget cuts every year since the first cut during President Estrada’s term, the UP Administration used it as a justification on increasing the tuition, which I wrote about here. That’s why most teachers nowadays opt to find greener pastures abroad, where their skills can be better rewarded in terms of monetary benefits. With the government seemingly focusing on increasing the military and defense budgets, it looks like the country will further slip into the muck of illiteracy.

Of Kisses and Flowers

February 2, 2007 · 22 Comments

LovapaloozaNext week, a big event’s coming up, and by the looks of it, I’m gonna miss the 4th Lovapalooza. Again. Due to circumstances outside my control. Again. Darnit. *sigh* It really had to come at a time wherein there’s a big campaign for the Philippines to regain the Guinness Record for the most couples kissing simultaneously. The record was first set in 2004, with more than 5,300 couples, but it’s currently held by Hungary, after their own version featured more than 5,700 couples. There’s also the perfect venue for this year, the newly opened SM Mall of Asia. Everything would’ve been perfect, if not for the fact that I need to be at work that day. What rotten luck.

Full Moon

I’ve noticed this for the longest time now, that it struck me weird that I only just wrote about it. What is it with women and the full moon? I observed that whenever the moon is about to reach full, Ellie for some reason becomes more irritable and prone to her “it’s a girl thing” moments.I’ve read somewhere that the moon has a great effect on the tides here on earth, as it still has a small gravitational pull that makes the difference. But I’ve yet to read that it also has an effect on women. Is this like a monthy thing too like their period? I don’t think I’ll ever get to know what the logical reason is.

I asked one of my married officemates and he says that his wife has her own weird things. Some of his wife’s weird things coincide with the full moon, but some don’t. I’m not sure tuloy if it’s just in my end.

All I know is, when Ellie starts acting up, I start to literally look out and up. “Ay, full moon na naman pala.”

Hope

“Don’t worry Prab, everything happens for a reason.”

My mom used to tell me this a lot of times, especially when I was feeling depressed or sad about something. She has this sweet weird way of saying the right things at the right time, and knows how to make me or my siblings appreciate what we have. It’s been a long time since we really got together, she and me. I only see her once a month every year, and it’s been almost forever since we just “hang around.”

I admit, sometimes I’m just too caught up with the days events that I forget to remember what she did for me, and why she’s there. But there are times when little nothings remind me how she cares, such as that phrase above.
